  1. MyX Is Psycho – Howl O Scream

    October 3, 2010 by Kelly

Honestly, I don’t have an “X”, but apparently Sylvie from MyX does.

I was invited to go to the Bleed-Up at Howl-O-Scream on October 1st. What a way to bring in October!

We were all lucky enough to get some food, drinks and pictures with Sylvie. Along with a concert. Ooooh and the most important part – there were giveaways. Three or four people won guitars. And one person won a trip into Alone, supposedly the best haunted house of all time! More on that later…

Around 9, everyone headed out to conquer the scare zones and houses. I took in all the scare zones like a big girl, but I am not a fan of doing haunted houses, so I opted out and was the official bag holder for Jeff, Jacobus, Jen and Jay. Holy crap that’s a lot of J names!

We set out to find drinks (so I would maybe do a house or two) and instead we made a stop at one or two houses for the 4Js to do. Thankfully (for me) rides were open, so we did Sheikra!!

After that, we each grabbed a drink and went to grab our reservation. Reservation for what you ask?

    ALONE!

The person that won the chance to do Alone… ME! Probably the ONE person that wouldn’t actually do it. I never expect to win anything, especially since Sylvie was taking out tickets and then ripping them up.

She said Kelly… then couldn’t read my last name. Said Walky (because apparently “I write bad”) and then the person on stage with her read that it said Walker. Yay me?! The ticket was up to 4 people (by the way, this house is an extra cost for anyone not able to win a ticket. It costs $25 in advance online or $35 day off. You can either do the house alone <hence the name> or with a group of up to 4) So who were the four people that did it? Well, I wasn’t included.

    Jeff, Jacobus, Jen and Jay!

After they checked in, they waited… and waited… and waited.. They only let one person/group in at a time. From what I was told by the 4Js is that it’s “personalized” of sorts. You don’t get herded through unlike the other houses and it’s a story. If I wasn’t such a chicken it sounded cool.

And if you don’t believe me, by 10:30 all of the spots for the house were sold out for the night!

We didn’t get to see either of the other shows, but while they were in one of the houses I caught a peek at Fiends. Seemed funny and something I would like. Singing.. dancing.. ok I’m in.

    I saw a lot of this…

And looked at this a lot to figure out where to go next.

We all had an awesome time. Including me, even not doing any of the houses was a lot of fun. The rides were open. The lines were short and our Front of the Lines passes didn’t get used too much because there were hardly any lines!

A very bloody thank you to Busch Gardens, John, and Melissa!

  2. Mission: Accomplished

    May 16, 2010 by Kelly

It’s Sunday, May 16, which means Atlantis embarked on it’s ‘last’ flight two days ago. I was there to share the experience with 149 other Twitter users that had the amazing opportunity to be there first hand to witness such an awesome thing.

However, we weren’t just there for the launch. We got a VIP tour of the entire NASA complex.. as they said, everything they could have shown us, they did.

Also, any guest speakers they could brought in to talk to us, they did. Seriously.. a Close Out Crew member! One that had JUST help get the astronauts of Atlantis get situated and ready for flight. We watched him be apart of the crew on NASA tv and then about an hour later, he was in our tent telling us all about it: his final words to the astronauts before closing the hatch (“God Speed.”) and that it’s not always fun, as he was part of the crew that get Columbia ready for flight.. right before that horrible launch.

We got to spend a lot of time hanging around the countdown clock and Launch Pad. (I’m sorry for whatever you were doing on Thursday and Friday!)

    Thursday’s speakers:

Bobby Braun – NASA Chief Technologist
    Janice Voss – Astronaut
Stephanie Stilson – Orbiter Processing Director
    Jon Cowart, NASA engineer
Ron Woods – NASA spacesuit designer

Thursday included a full VIP tour, with the added bonus of going to Launch Pad 39-A. Being there while the RSS – Rotating Service Structure – pulled away from Atlantis. What a freaking experience. Amazing!

    Friday’s speakers:

    Lori Garver, NASA Deputy Administrator
Lt. Col. Patrick Barrett, Weather Officer
    Dave Wolf, Astronaut
Chris Meinert, Closeout crew (for STS-132, how crazy!!)
Madi Sengupta, Robotics Instructor (for STS-132..see totally mind blowing)
Bobby Braun, Chief Technologist, came back for more questions

The speakers came randomly throughout the day. Then everyone went out by the road to wave the Atlantis STS-132 crew off!! What a great experience!

Once 2:10 came around we all went out to get our spots for the launch.. what an amazing view we ALL had. Felt the Earth shake. Got yelled at by a gator (honestly, it was SUPER loud and scary.)

I have posted the rest of the pictures on flickr, so go and enjoy them! See NASA up close!

  3. Mission: NASATweetup

    May 13, 2010 by Kelly

I’m sitting in the NASATweetup tent as I type this. Everyone is all like up in my business (shout out to Brian Feldman) – no actually, everyone in the tent is giddy and ready to hear what the speakers have to say.

Agendas have been passed out. NASA camera crews are getting set up and starting to live stream.

There are cameras in everyone’s hands and Twitter may just implode with all of the #nasatweetup tweeting. Seriously.

Jeff and I may have gotten a bit lost coming out to the Press site. Passed the VAB. I’m not making any promises, but I’m pretty sure the Astrovan may or may not have passed us a couple of times. We went down the wrong road a few times and BAM! There it was. I think. It was a fancy windstream bus.

Right now, we are listening/watching a NASA video, waiting on the important people to show. Wait, there they are. Handshakes are happening at the day. That means they are important, right?

Well, it’s about time to get started, I’m going to be taking pictures and trying to update here and Twitter for the next couple of days.

    Yay!!

    Tweets:
10:30 AM – Robert Braun (NASA headquarters chief technologist) tells us why he’s here today. #nasatweetup http://twitpic.com/1nfkac

11:10 AM – Astronaut Janet Voss talking about L -1 Day, family day. And also receiving ‘email’ on a mission. #nasatweetup http://twitpic.com/1nfqdd

11:30 AM – Stephanie Stilson explaining a ‘Flow’ Director’s job.. flow = getting shuttle from landing back to flying. #nasatw http://twitpic.com/1nfvx3

    11:50 AM – Showing that science isn’t magic – Jon Cowart (@Rocky_Sci) and @JenVargas #nasatweetup http://twitpic.com/1ng120

  4. SweetUp '09

    August 17, 2009 by Kelly

Let’s start from the beginning.. there is twitter. On twitter, you make friends (sometimes), and you meet them at tweetups (twitter meetups). Tweetups are normally held at a restaurant or bar where you can mingle and talk with friends and meet new twitter people. To put a spin on things, this will be a SWEETup. A tweetup, but with LOTS of candy and sweets! Get it? Now, read on.

Next tweetup, SWEETup is on Thursday, September 10th. Winter Park Wedding Chapel is kind enough to host this event at their place!

Thanks to Shaan bringing up candy corn, Justin and Daphne continued talking about candy last week, I have decided since so many people on twitter have to like candy, cake, cupcakes, why not get together and look at it and then eat it!

    SUGAR DADDIES: @JeremiahsIce, @SweetByHolly, @KernelEncore

We’d love for EVERYONE to come and bring their favorite treat with them. Since we are not holding this event in a bar or restaurant, sure we’ll get some beverages to have, but not a ton. Think of it as a potluck of sorts. Don’t need to bring anything crazy or $$, just something small for everyone to share.

I’m looking for chocolate, cake, cupcake, lollipop, candy, SWEET places to help out with this event. If you are a company or you know of a company that would be willing to help out please let me know! You can e-mail me at kelly@peglegpug.com or find me on twitter @peglegpug.

To RSVP please visit: SweetUp ’09

  5. Quarter Life Party!

    July 28, 2009 by Kelly

Check out the pictures section for more on Jeff’s birthday party!

Saturday, July 25, 2009 was named T.U.O.T.Y. by Ross. (‘Tweet Up Of The Year’) Though it really wasn’t a tweet up per se, more of a group of friends, that just happened to be some people we’ve met off of twitter, that came by to celebrate Jeff’s birthday.

    birthday

Jeff is now 25 and he got to bring in this new age with some really great friends.

    25group

Everyone started rolling in around 1. We ate some food, drank some beer, and played some Rock Band. Oh and Jenn, Daphne and I were killed in Flip Cup on the first round. Second round, not so much. We beat them so bad! First flip for each of us. :)

After lunch, everyone sang Happy Birthday and then we all dug into the wonderful red velvet cake that Pam made and also the cheeseburger cupcakes that Daphne brought with her! Both were a very special treat!

    cakecupcakes

We all watched the kids play some video games while Jeff and Ross tried to beat them at Mario Kart and watched a movie, then Jeff started getting antsy for dinner. He, of course, wanted steak! Natalie went to the store and bought ALL of us steaks! Massive steaks!

    steaksteaks

Then it was time for MORE dessert. Thanks to Tommy and Ashley for supplying Jeremiah’s Italian Ice!! It was a great ending to a great day. Until Ross broke a chair….. :)

Thanks to EVERYONE that came out: Ross, Natalie and kids (Timmy, Ray & William), Geoff, Jen, Rowan, Pam, Christine, Tommy, Justin, Jenn, Daphne, Etan, Kyle, Autumn, Dan and kids, T, Amanda & Heather.

And a very special thank you to my mom for helping me out all week long and my dad for helping out the weekend before in the yard and also when he came on Friday!

Jeff had a WONDERFUL birthday and hope to do it again next year!
